Roycroft Renaissance Master Sculptor Henry Schmidt presents a Little Journey on sculpture, function and the work of the late Wendell Castle, renowned sculptor and furniture maker. Castle, whose prestigious career was centered out of Rochester/WNY, played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between art and craft. His innovative designs transformed furniture into more than just functional objects, elevating them to sculptural works of art. Castle was widely published and was the recipient of multiple awards throughout his decades long career, including a National Endowment of the Arts, and is often referred to as the father of the art furniture movement.
